The Associazione Napoletana was formed in 1972 by a group of migrants who had come from Naples and other parts of the Campania region of Italy. At first they met for family get together in various halls throughout the metropolitan area, but as it became more popular and its membership expanded, it relocated to its present permanent premises in Leichhardt in 1986 when it was incorporated as a not- for-profit association.
It is composed of a running committee with six office bearers and three directors who form the subcommittee of the Napoli fan club.
The association was formed to promote the Neapolitan and Campanian culture in general, through its cuisine, music and theatre. The premises has a hall that can accommodate over a hundred patrons, there is a dance floor and stage, and once a month the association organizes dinners with music and dancing for its members.
There have been many live stage performances produced in the past several years which have been very popular with the local community, the association encourages and promotes other cultural groups to work with the association in providing diverse activities that will benefit the wider community.
